Our Impact
Real Challenges. Meaningful Change.
The following are anonymized examples of our community work.
Identifying details have been omitted to protect the privacy of the individuals and families involved.
Rebuilding a Teenager's Confidence
A teenager we began mentoring had lost much of his confidence.
Academic difficulties had left him discouraged and unmotivated.
His daily routines and eating habits deteriorated.
His engagement with school also decreased.
His family became increasingly concerned.
Starting With Encouragement
We began by listening and developing a relationship with him.
We focused on encouragement, healthier routines, responsibility, and rebuilding confidence.
We also provided guidance to his family.
When appropriate, we encouraged the family to seek assistance from qualified mental-health professionals.
A New Direction
Gradually, meaningful changes occurred.
His routines improved.
His confidence began to return.
His motivation increased.
His academic engagement improved substantially.
Today, he is doing significantly better personally and academically.
He is once again striving toward his goals.
Sometimes rebuilding confidence is the first step toward rebuilding a future.
From Struggling Student to Academic Success
Another student began working with us at approximately 12 years old.
He was struggling academically and socially.
He was also resistant to guidance from adults.
The original purpose of our involvement was tutoring.
We quickly realized that tutoring alone wasn't enough.
We Started by Listening
Before beginning schoolwork, we gave him time to talk.
He discussed his frustrations with school, teachers, parents, and peers.
We listened.
We acknowledged his feelings.
Then we helped him think about more constructive ways to respond.
Building Trust
Gradually, he began to feel heard.
He became more willing to listen.
Once trust developed, he became much more receptive to academic instruction.
His academic progress accelerated.
Two Years Later
The transformation was significant.
He became one of the strongest students in his class academically.
His social life also improved dramatically.
He developed friendships and greater confidence.
Sometimes the first step toward teaching a child is listening to him.
Helping an Entire Family Move Forward
Another family was experiencing significant instability.
The atmosphere within the home had become discouraging.
The difficulties were affecting both the parents and children.
We realized that helping the children alone wouldn't solve the underlying problem.
Creating an Opportunity
We focused on helping the father pursue employment.
We reached out through our community relationships.
We spoke with businesspeople and advocated for him as a potential employee.
An employment opportunity emerged.
We encouraged him to believe in himself and take advantage of the opportunity.
He succeeded.
Changing a Household
Employment brought greater stability and confidence.
The atmosphere in the home began to change.
The family developed renewed energy and optimism.
Today, the family is moving forward in a much stronger direction.
Sometimes helping one person can transform an entire family.
How We Measure Success
-
Not every success is measured by a number.
-
Sometimes success is a child believing in himself again.
-
Sometimes it's a teenager returning his attention to school.
-
Sometimes it's a parent finding employment.
-
Sometimes it's a family becoming hopeful again.
-
Sometimes it's a child discovering a talent through music or art.
-
Sometimes it's simply someone realizing that another person is willing to listen.
-
These individual changes build stronger families and stronger communities.
